This is a library of questions with answers in simple lay terms. You are encouraged to search the Internet to get information about prohormones and prohormone supplementation. Since we sell prohormones, we cannot recommend exceeding manufacturer's recommended dosages.
What are prohormones?
Simply put: prohormones are precursors to either testosterone or nortestosterone. They are essentially one molecule shy from being converted into those compounds. Certain enzymes in our system supply the missing molecule. Androstenedione and Androstenediol convert to testosterone. Norandrostenedione and Norandrostenediol convert to nortestosterone. The conversions rates to testosterone or nortestosterone are either better or worse, dependant on which type are being consumed. This "difference" is further detailed under the answer to What is the difference between different types of prohormones? We also provide more information about the different types of prohormones on our Resources web page.
You the consumer, must be assured that you are purchasing "real" prohormones. All of the KiloSports products we sell are laboratory tested before packaging. They are laboratory tested either at American Analytical in Illinois or San Rafael in Utah.
Given the negative profile of steroids by the medical community, their position on prohormones is not surprising. Here is an article in the November 1998 online edition of Physician and Sportsmedicine Journal titled: Androstenedione et al: Nonprescription Steroids
What is the difference between different types of prohormones?
Rather than try and eloquently describe what has already been described, we are providing a link to an article by Patrick Arnold. This article is from testosterone.net's November 13, 1998 edition. Patrick Arnold is considered the "man" that introduced prohormones into today's marketplace. This article is titled Prohormones: All You Need to Know.
You the consumer, must be assured that you are getting the specific prohormone that is being purchased. All of the KiloSports products we sell are laboratory tested before packaging. They are laboratory tested either at American Analytical in Illinois or San Rafael in Utah.
What is the difference between different delivery methods for prohormones?
There are four different methods for taking prohormones:
Oral:Prohormones are available in a "powder" form. They come in either various sized with possibly varying types prohormones in capsules, or in bulk powder form (developed.net sells bulk powder form). These two forms are the most common methods for taking prohormones. Oral prohormones have also been taken sublingually (absorbed in the system from underneath the tongue). This may be a very good way to avoid the breakdown of compounds in the digestive tract. It would seem to be a waste of money purchasing capsules if you plan on taking prohormones sublingually (the stuff does have a "bitter" taste).
There is much discussion about when to (what time of day) and how often to take prohormones. It is pretty much a consensus that it is advantageous to take prohormones ½ to 1 hour prior to working out.
Nasal: The East Germans used Androstenedione in a saline solution that was inhaled prior to an event. The claimed advantage is that the compound is directly absorbed into the bloodstream and not broken down in the digestive tract. Prohormones are very harsh and we do not recommend inhaling these products. Here is an excerpt titled Androstenedione vs. DHEA - The "T" Test which provide some information about effects of inhaling prohormones.
Patch: The"patch" appears to quite a novelty. Before you spend your hard earned money on this new approach to getting prohormones into your system research the effectiveness first. This recent article in testosterone.net titled 1999: A Ban on Prohormones? has some discussion on the effectiveness of the patch. Although this article paints a gloomy picture on the future of prohormones, be sure and read information about the effectiveness of the "patch" (it can be found around the 7th paragraph).
Injectable: This may be ultimate method for taking prohormones. While a sterile solution is currently not available to inject, if it is made available in a non-prescription form, it will probably end the sale of all prohormones as "dietary" supplements. The testosterone.net article titled 1999: A Ban on Prohormones? has quite a realistic view of this phenomena.
How much and how often should I take prohormones?
There is much written and much unknown about "how much and how often" to take prohormones. Many suggest that dosages must be taken much higher than recommended and taken throughout the day. There are two different "schools of thought" when it comes to maximizing your bodies leutinizing hormones through use of supplements such as Tribulus Terrestris. Some say that your body's testosterone production will decrease as a result of prohormone supplementation and it it useless to try and stimulate it (fighting a losing battle). They recommend supplementing with Tribulus Terrestris after you are done cycling prohormones to get your system back to producing its own testosterone. Another group says that you must maximize your body's production of leutinizing hormone before prohormones will be effective. Research this issue and draw your own conclusions.
A newsletter is reproduced that contains information about cycling prohormones. It is from a competitor and includes a big promotion (Their profit margin must be tremendous). This does not bother us, use this calculator to compare "our" prices and see what we mean. The newsletter is titled: EFNews: Physique Perfection Your Perfect Cycle. Be sure and read about the nutrition protocol that was followed to achieve these results. This is just as big an element as the prohormones that were taken. Most people will overlook or not believe that nutrition is an important element in making gains. Also note that the type of training Tony performed was HIT. Developed.net offers a version of HIT on our Training web page.
Here is an article from a November 13, 1998 testosterone.net titled: Andro Wars with recommendations about how to supplement prohormones.
How long of a time period should I take prohormones?
This is another question with a "solid answer." We have seem many, many different protocols for how long of a time period to take prohormones. Short bursts, three weeks on prohormones, three weeks off have been promoted. Some protocols begin at lower doses of prohormones and increase throughout (and sometimes decrease at the back-end of cycle) the cycle of supplementation. It appears that prohormone supplementation should probably not exceed seven straight weeks with at least four weeks of cessation following that period. Side effects seem to increase when prohormones are taken for longer periods of time. This would be more dependant on the "type" and "amount" of prohormones taken. Strong considerations should be given to taking supplements that have anti-estrogenic properties such as Chrysin during any prohormone supplementation cycle.
Putting all of this together
Please do not fool yourself into thinking that your first cycle of prohormones will work wonders. The author of this FAQ went through three experimental prohormone cycles before beginning to figure out: how much, how often, how long, and which types work best for him.
You must gather enough information and maintain a log, set goals, and get after it to figure out a supplementation program that will work for you.
